Dream Job

You can’t get a job because you don’t have experience, but you can’t get experience without getting a job! It can be very demotivating to hear the same feedback from employers “sorry, you don’t have enough experience” so how do you get noticed and given the chance to start a role you’re keen on?

  • Show your transferable skills; you may not have used a specific system they require or carried out an exact task but you may have done something very similar, show them you can take that knowledge and assign it to the role.
  • Education; could a qualification help you make that step? For example if you want to get into HR but have no experience, you could look into completing a CIPD.
It’s who you know; networking and connecting with people who could help you is without a doubt one of the best ways to start a career, consider your friends, family and make the right connections on LinkedIn and other networking platforms.
  • Volunteering; prove you have the passion and skills with work experience, this is invaluable as once you have the understanding of the role first hand you can use this on our CV and social networking profiles.
  • Consider a salary drop, if you are looking for a career change with no experience this means starting from the bottom and unfortunately so does the pay. Just think of the long term benefits and your happiness once you have made that change.

If you’re in this situation you must be open, open to opportunity and think outside the box. Never stop learning and being enthusiastic, it’ll pay off in the end.
