Salary – £110.61-£114.61 Per day
Duration Ongoing contract

Summary of a Customs Assistant
In this role you will assist with Irish customs compliance requirements. Additionally, you will assist with some of the UK import and export requirements, including ensuring evidence of export is retained. The successful candidate will be a contact point between the client and Revenue and will work towards the client obtaining an AEO authorisation in Ireland.

Responsibilities of a Customs Assistant
• Submission of data to agents to allow the correct clearance of goods
• Issuing of customs clearance instructions to couriers and clearing agents (non-stock items) in a timely manner
• Management of customs records to AEO standard
• Involvement with the reconciliation of the duty deferment accounts and posting of duty and import VAT in SAP
• Checking of preference declarations received for accuracy
• Identifying errors made by appointed clearing agents (over / under payments of Duty & VAT) and requesting post-clearance amendments to be completed where necessary
• Creation and submission of amendments to the appropriate authority
• Gathering of documents required in relation to zero-rating exports from the UK
• Reconciliation of import activity
• Control export compliance requirements and to acquire relevant export licences where necessary
• Some travel to the UK will be required


Key competencies of a Customs Assistant
• A track record of success in a constantly evolving environment
• The ability to work well in a team as well as individually
• Good communication skills
• A willingness to get involved in all aspects of the customs processes
• Excellent IT skills, specifically MS Excel and MS Access
• A background in customs and international trade
• Experience of export control requirements
• An understanding of EU customs law and regulation
• An understanding of AEO standards
• An understanding of ERP systems such as SAP
