Three Steps to Interview Success
As a company experienced in recruitment Surrey, the March Recruitment team know all too well how daunting it is to prepare for an interview, even for a job that you’re a perfect fit for! It can be too easy to worry about all the dos and don’ts and get caught up in over rehearsing what you’ll say, so we’ve come up with three easy steps for you to follow, all of which will help you make a great impression at your interview.
Dress The Part
You’ve most likely heard the phrase ‘dress for the job you want, not the job you have’ and a great time to apply this is in interviews! Make sure that your interview outfit is smart and professional, even if the job itself doesn’t require smart-casual dress; first impressions are vital in interviews!
Use Appropriate Language
Don’t overuse technical jargon to appear overqualified, especially if you’re attempting to hide that you’ve forgotten something – this could come back to haunt you at a later date, or even immediately in the interview, when you’re asked to explain yourself or elaborate something you’ve said.
On the other hand, you also don’t want to sound like a teenager gossiping with their mates, so try and avoid cursing, or colloquial language. Appearing over-friendly or too relaxed around your interviewers may also cast a bad impression!
It’s always a good idea to ask for the interviewers’ names if they don’t tell you, and make sure you actually remember and use them. Say your pleases and thank yous at opportune times, such as when asked about refreshments, and remember to shake their hand at the end of the interview, as well as thank them for their time; a little grace can go a long way! Of course, courtesy alone won’t get you the job, but it’ll leave a good impression that will work hand in hand with your interview technique to make you that little more memorable.
